recently viewed items, like.com

like screenshot
Like.com has a small module underneath their left nav that shows tiny thumbnails of my recently viewed shoes. It also has a link to “view all items in LikeList” that prompts you to log in or register, and then goes to a page that shows all these shoes. This seems to be a pretty appealing way of encouraging users to register.
Ebay has a new opt in left nav
The left nav right now is rather mysterious. Originally, a little cloud with “new” in it popped up to the right and said “switch to the new ebay.” I can’t find the link anymore in other browsers, so maybe this is an A/B test? Also, the “switch back to the old ebay” link is now gone. Weird.
Old Ebay
New Ebay – much more compact
Refine your search and More Choices pop outs, notice that the Refine your search pop out has multiple tabs while the More Choices pop out does not.
neat account creation page
I really enjoyed the mint.com account creation page.
Here’s why:
1. It gave me feedback as I was working through it (filling out each field correctly was “rewarded” with a green OK icon).
2. Unobtrusive marketing text on the right — it didn’t feel overwhelming, but I could have read it if I really cared.
3. Simple and light look and feel.
is search broken?
I saw this slideshow on findability.org. It’s hard to follow without the accompanying talk, but two slides stood out:
Cool concept for all refinements in one interface, but I worry about over-steering to zero results all in one step.
